When it comes to practical life, most of the curriculum taught in universities is irrelevant, outdated and time wasting. I did my MBA from legendary business school of Pakistan, IBA Karachi, in 1992. I wish my teachers at IBA would have taught me:
- How to manage boss and office politics?
- How and why some people grow in life while others remain stuck?
- How to save money and where to invest and how to get financially independent?
- How to manage work-life balance?
- How to find your life partner based on shared values and shared dreams?
- How and why to network with those who matter?
- How to face rejections and cope with failures?
- How to be emotionally intelligent?
- How to start business and succeed? [Talking of own business in IBA in 1990s was a taboo and unhealthy thought.]
- How to dress according to occasion?
Despite all, I am lucky to graduate from IBA, job was never a problem. But, universities still don’t teach students The Craft of Selling “YOURSELF” in the job market.
I learnt some of the things in a hard way after paying hefty price in life. Our academia is totally detached with real hardships of life.
