I saw this post at LinkedIn where Mr. Wade White, a senior finance professional, seems frustrated with ineffectiveness of world’s top professional networking site that failed to help him find job. His post invited more than 17,000 likes and more than 4,000 comments. Comments are mixed, but mostly showing sympathy with Wade. Wade has more than 4000 followers and 500+ contacts. He has big network.

I opened his profile and started analyzing  it from a recruiter/headhunter’s point of view. Profile is neither powerful nor something vague or casual. It is just okay. From a recruiter’s point of view, Wade must have got interview calls. But the most important question is why Wade could not get any call.

Here is the reason. He did not leave any contact details, like Cell Number, email Id, Skype or Whatsapp number. How on earth can someone reach you if you have decided to lock the door from inside?

Recruiters can only contact Wade through InMail and only premium accounts have InMail facility and premium accounts are paid accounts. Majority of staff of recruiting companies does not have premium accounts. Wade is not reachable and accessible.

What is the purpose of your presence at LinkedIn if you are not easily reachable? We are headhunters. Our first stop of finding resources for clients is LinkedIn. Being a Sales Trainer, I regularly get assignments and queries from LinkedIn. Why? Because, any body can contact me instantly through email or cell number.

Lesson: Leave your contact details at LinkedIn and other social networking sites or don’t join.
