What you must do for your career by age 35

You don’t want to just live an average life, living paycheck to paycheck, and barely making it until the end of the month … or do you? In order to enjoy life to the fullest, you need to have a respectable career and it goes without saying that a handsome salary is going to take care of most of your worries. But how can one reach the pinnacle in one’s career? How can one become the CEO, the director or a partner in a firm?

One thing is certain, it isn’t going to happen overnight. You need to set big goals for yourself and strive hard to achieve them. Believe me, you don’t want to regret when you are retiring.

So, what can you do to make sure that your career progresses and that you are on the right track? The answer is right here. Following are the seven things that you ought to do before turning thirty-five:

Know yourself

You need to know what you are very good at and you must follow that particular field. Find out what you are amazing at because it is in that line of work that you’ll stand out from your competitors and excel. Also, you must know your weaknesses inside out. Hence, you can always focus on improving on the right things and get someone to cover for your weakness(s).

Make a list of things you are not willing to compromise on

Don’t beat around the bush while working for someone. Know what you want and what you don’t. Know what you can and cannot compromise on. This way you can find the right opportunities.

Push yourself

You can only learn and improve yourself by going out of your comfort zone. So, do that to extend your skill set.

Network smartly

The sooner you have the right people in your circle, the faster you will ascend to the top. So socialize, eliminate the toxic people and cherish the good ones.

Learn to perfectly market yourself

Whether on social media or in person, you must learn the art of selling yourself and your ideas. The elder you become, the lesser the opportunities you will get, so make the most of them while you are young, energetic and an asset to companies.

Learn to separate personal and professional life

The sooner you do this the better. It will drastically improve your productivity and keep you happy as well.

Multiply your sources of income

Do this by investing smartly, picking up a side-project from time to time, for instance, doing consultancy work, or even by starting your own company.

It is absolutely fine not to have a checklist of things to do by the time you were a teenager or in the mid-twenties because you were only finding your feet at that point in time. However, when you are approaching the mid-thirties, it is time to get serious and time to get to work. The period in your life will define whether you are a winner or a loser. So do the above-mentioned things and give yourself the best possible chance of being successful.
