The five common job interview questions and their perfect answers

Why am I not being hired? Is this a question you have to continuously ask yourself whenever you walk out from a job interview? Have you ever been disappointed by a rejection email or even a phone call? If it seems like others are always beating you for jobs and one way or another the recruiters tend to overlook you then it’s high time that you make some changes in your job-hunting planning. Stay ahead of your competitors by taking note of the following answers to the five common job interview questions and implement them to change your fortunes.

  1. Describe yourself?

This is a crucial question which if answered correctly can help you provide a lot of essential information to the recruiters. Note that they already know most of the stuff about you. They have your resume, and they would probably have stalked you on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Hence, use this question to try and fill the gaps which exist on your resume as they do know what you have done but don’t know why. Thus, you should share details about your personal qualities, leadership abilities, and experiences that shaped you into the person you are today.

  1. Why do you want this particular job?

This is where you need to talk about your short-term as well as long-term goals. Mention how you envisioned yourself to be in this specific position throughout your academic as well as professional career and how it will be a stepping stone to something bigger. Remember to be precise but at the same time exhibit your broad horizons.

  1. Explain a work situation where you made a tough decision?

Explain how a particular decision which you took under extreme pressure and of utmost importance turned out right. Prove how you are a winner and a doer. Showcase your mettle.

  1. What is your biggest weakness?

Here’s one of the most frequently asked questions and the majority of job seekers simply choose a weakness which they think can be turned into a strength and hence improve their chances of being hired. However, what employers are looking for here is you being honest, critically evaluative, and being someone who is not afraid to speak their mind. One thing is clear; no one is perfect. Hence, don’t try to act like one. Pick an actual weakness and highlight the progress that you have made to overcome it. That’s it. It will make a point about your character which will surely boost your chances of being shortlisted.

  1. Why should we hire you?

List all the necessary qualities that you possess that align with the job. Be it multitasking, passion for the job, ability to work under pressure, and committing full time. Try and give brief and relevant examples to make your point.

Come up with your answer to these questions and you wouldn’t have to blame the saturation of over-qualified people in the market or workplace politics for your failures. Remember: only the fittest one in the pack survives and you need to have the competitive edge over others to standout in order to land a good job.
